A.I.M.C. was founded in Ravenna in 1980 during a two-day study session on contemporary mosaic.
Organized by mosaicists and scholars from Ravenna, it was supported by the local government (Municipality of Ravenna), Board of Councillors for Culture. Mosaicists, restorers and others active in the field of mosaic from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Norway and Hungary were present.
A.I.M.C. now counts among its members: architects, mosaic schools, mosaicists, restorers, art galleries, companies producing glass and ceramics for mosaics, companies producing tools and materials for the trade, students, art critics and supporters of this art. They come from 40 countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Ivory Coast, Croazia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Greece, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, San Marino, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Hungary, United States and South Africa.
